Reddit has ~1.2 billion MAU, making it a goldmine for sales 💰

But selling there is huge challenge because of regular bans for self-promotion 🚩

Nikolai Golos, Product & Growth @ Fluently & Y Combinator alumni, shared his full guide to starting the growth on Reddit and avoiding bans:

1. Use 2 types of subreddits to sell products
• Topic-based → Focus on a product niche
Example: Language learning subreddits for Fluently: AI English coach
• Entrepreneurial → Share the Founder’s journey and mention the product natively
Example: Yurii Rebryk's personal stories of building Fluently

2. Choose only popular subreddits
• 400K+ members
• Targeted subreddits should have posts with 2,000+ upvotes in the last 2 months
• If 0 posts in a subreddit mention products, it’s a 🚩 - avoid them. It's mean that all product's mentions are banned

3. SEO bonuses
• Reddit ranks well on Goole (see image in post)
• More mentions of your product in subreddits = higher Google indexing chances
• A subreddit post with a comment about your product could rank on Google’s first page

4. Mimic the style of posts in selected subreddits
• Study top posts in your target subreddits
• Follow their exact format & style when crafting posts
• Write really useful content for the subreddit’s audience

5. Post with native promotion (no direct links!)
• If your post doesn’t get downvotes in the first hour this is already a good sign
• The goal: Get into “Best” → More exposure = more users
🏴‍☠️ Promote posts using socialplug or boostupvotes by purchasing upvotes
🏴‍☠️ Buy no more than 10-15 upvotes per minute
🏴‍☠️ Support the post with comments from other accounts of yours
• The main goal is to get into the "Best" category so more users can see it

6. Use only boosted accounts for posting
• Grow an account organically by upvoting & posting other posts
🏴‍☠️ Skip growing an account from scratch. Buy boosted accounts on z2u (~$40 each). But check them before buying

7. Additional Reddit growth tactics:
- Offer users of your product free perks to post about you on Reddit
- Drop comments about your product in relevant posts
- Use f5bot to find the best posts to comment on

💡 Final takeaway: Reddit works, but it’s a long game

Start by reading Reddit as a user.

There’s insane content on sales, AI, and marketing.
This will help you feel the platform’s vibes.

And remember: bans on Reddit are part of the game. Be ready for them 😄
